Muffin Day 2007

On July 17, 2007, Main Street Gourmet will be celebrating a milestone, our 20th anniversary, and we want to do something special for our customers, our employees, and our community.

Therefore, Main Street Gourmet is pleased to announce that it is planning a major local event to thank the City of Akron and the local community for their part in its success.

The first ever Muffin Day will be held July 17, 2007 at Lock 3 from 11 AM to 2 PM. Event sponsors include 98.1 FM WKDD, The Akron Beacon Journal, Downtown Akron Partnership, Greater Akron Chamber, The University of Akron, and the City of Akron, with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Summit County.

Muffin Day will feature events including a muffin eating contest, scavenger hunt, most creative muffin competition, picture booth, closest to the "pan" and slap shot competitions using muffins and more. Main Street Gourmet will also unveil a plaque commemorating its link to the City of Akron and it will be kept at Lock 3.

Check this site often as more details will be released as the date approaches.

Tag-Team Eating Contest

"I've got a big appetite and I am chompin' at the bit to chowdown at Main Street Gourmet's Muffin Day Tag-team Muffin Eating contest."
-Dave "Coondog" O'Karma

Do you marvel at your co-workers' ability to eat?

Do they take All-You-Can-Eat Buffets as a personal challenge?

Well it is time to find out if they have what it takes to compete at the next level.  A tag team of 3 of your company's fastest eaters can meet and compete as they put their appetites to the test in the Muffin Eating Contest to be held July 17, 2007 at the Muffin Day Celebration at Lock 3 in downtown Akron.  We are very excited to have one of our area's premier eaters, the nationally recognized Coondog O'Karma to MC this event and to have support from A.I.C.E., the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters.

Main Street Gourmet will provide:

  • Your company logo on all Eating Contest materials at Lock 3 on the day of the event.
  • Your company logo on your team's bibs.
  • A great team building exercise for your company.
  • A continental breakfast for your office (up to 25 employees) upon receipt of your entry fee.  This will be delivered to your office and will include a selection of Main Street Gourmet muffins and brownies, gourmet ground coffee and creamer.  What a great way to get your employees together for an informal gathering.

Your company's responsibilities will include:

  • Support a great cause – your $500.00 per team entry fee will benefit the United Way of Summit County.
  • Provide a team of three eating contestants to have fun while competing for prizes for themselves and co-workers.
  • Encourage office staff to come down to Lock 3 to support their team.
  • Promote Muffin Day within your company via flyers and e-mail.

Prizes will be awarded in two categories...

Eating Contest:  The team that eats the most blueberry muffins (by weight) will receive all of the prizes listed below.

Pledges:  Contestants are encouraged to seek pledges from family, friends, and co-workers.  Money raised will benefit the United Way of Summit County.  The team that raises the most money will receive all of the prizes listed below.

Prizes:
